Demure Elegance of Hepworths Greeting Cards Bound to Produce Fruitful Results

At an early age Monica Hepworth began to develop an intense love of art. A love that was nurtured by her mother, who herself is an accomplished illustrator in her own right. Monica was home taught from kindergarten to the 12th grade and her mother would take the time to teach her children how to draw and paint and to see the beauty in the world. While growing up in Utah it was not difficult for Monica to see the resplendent elegance of the red rocks of southern Utah to the lofty Wasatch peaks that tower over the great salt lake. “[I] enjoy living in Utah because of the great opportunities to camp, hike, and generally enjoy nature.” She further explains, “I love travel and have been to Mexico, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Tonga, and Samoa.”

Girl and hampster

I asked Monica what inspired her to draw and paint. “Much of my inspiration comes from the natural world. I can spend hours sketching animals and plants. I think the beauty of nature brings such peace to the mind and heart. Who doesn’t feel joy while looking at beautiful trees and flowers, snowy mountains, or vivid sunsets?” she said,” I try to bring the peace and strength of these types of images into my work.” She then reiterates that her art has yet again and most appropriately been influenced by her family, “I’m inspired by the love and peace that I feel with my family and friends. I try to create images that will bring the viewer the same feelings of security, joy, and love that I feel when I am with those I love.”

During this holiday season when we remember the birth of a little child, we remember the baby Jesus. His influence of good has been felt throughout the world and that desire to do good has not been lost on Monica. When I asked her what dreams she has for her art and how her art can influence the world she meekly replied, “My real goal with my art is to become a children’s book illustrator. I think of the books that I read as a child, and the wonderful influence they were in my life. A good, beautifully illustrated book can bring so many positive emotions to children.” After a pause she somberly continues, “As I look at the media options that are often offered to children today, I am somewhat disappointed by the lack of good, joyful emotions in books, television, and video games. I would hope that one day my artwork might contribute to the creation of books that will offer a strong, positive media option for parents and children who are looking for alternatives to the negative attitudes and feelings that are prevalent in much of current mainstream children’s entertainment.”

With Monica’s strong desires to positively affect young children and her elegant and unforgettable artistic style I see no reason why the name Monica Hepworth will not become a household name in the not to distant future. Artist Greeting Cards

In today’s blog post I am highlighting the artist greeting cards of Jim Hunt. Annapolis, Maryland the home of the US Naval Academy is where Jim and his family call home. He is married and has two daughters. He is often asked why he decided to become a cartoonist. “Because I was never cut out to sit in a cubicle, commute in traffic, or work nine to five” he explains. “And goofing off is in the job description! Plus, a cartoonist’s office is like being in the plastic ball pit at a McDonald’s play place…without the germs of course.” Sounds like a good job to me.

And all that fun and hard work has paid off for Jim. He has his own cartoon strip, Drawn and Quartered and has illustrated for hundreds of companies including Hershey’s, NASA, Bank of America, Kmart, and Nascar Nextel Cup Series among others. So, as a professional artist that is in such demand, what is the day-in-the-life of Jim Hunt like? “Much like a brain surgeon’s day. Except without the brain surgery, degree from Harvard or beeper on my belt. And when you work out of a home office, you can’t escape the occasional chore (try as I must).”

Drawn and Quartered
For all those aspiring artists out there, Jim would like to give these words of wisdom, “Draw as often as possible. I draw every day and believe me, assignments that might have taken several days back when I started, can now be done in a few hours. If you draw often, you’ll get better!”

Jim has designed a number of greeting cards for Kings Cross Greeting Cards that have been very popular. God Bless America this Holiday Season

God Bless America!

The Christmas season is upon us and we are reminded of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. The picture below is from the movie “The Nativity”. Mike Rich creates a poignant representation of what he believed to be the life of Joseph and Mary before and after Mary was chosen to rear the son of God. Catherine Hardwicke showed inspired direction. I felt as though I was seeing the gospels unfold before my eyes.

nativity

Truly the eyes of the cast and crew were opened to some spiritual insight from above. Because as I watched I could feel my heart burn within breast as if a voice telling me that what I am watching is the truth.

I am grateful that such movies are made. In a world such as this it is difficult to stand up for traditional Christian values without feeling the heat from those that would wish to push God out of every aspect of our lives. It is unfortunate that such headway has been gained from such wicked men and women. Schools all across the country have banned the mere mention of God in the class room. After school bible classes have been disbanded so as to not offend anyone. Even simple signs of faith such as, monuments of the ten commandments, Christmas trees, colored Christmas lights, and signs that say Merry Christmas are being removed from public places so that the atheists are not offended.

The first amendment of the constitution states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” The religious freedoms that our forefathers intended for us to enjoy are being stripped from us, in direct violation of the first amendment. Our children may no longer “peaceably assemble” after school to discuss the scriptures and in many instances the “redress of grievances” is being denied in favor of the Godless.

I salute those that stand up peaceably to make a positive change in this world. It is by God fearing men and women that get involved in the political and public arena that will uphold this nation, even if it is by a thread. The day that we as a nation rest our laurels and forget the Lord is the day that He withdraws his hand of protection from us, and we will be subject to persecution and wars, both internal and external, on our own shores.

We need to love another and to fight for our the liberty of our family and friends. And most importantly we need to fight for our freedom to worship however, wherever and whomever we choose. If we don’t raise the flag of liberty then surely it will be torn from our hands by those that wish for our demise.

I will strive to emulate the words of Marianne Williamson in her book, A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of a Course in Miracles.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small doesn’t serve the world.
There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so
that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It’s not just in some of us, it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other
people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.”

Wickedness never rests as it proselytizes of the world. It’s time that we cast off our fear and do our best to bring back those that have been lost. On the Lord’s side is the only side were peace and freedom will reign.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

HALLALUJIA!!!

It’s been what seems like FOREVER since we started the business plan and went to the bank, BUT…it finally went through!!!We were told that we should have the funding by this past Wednesday, alas then we were told that it wouldn’t be until Friday next because the SBA had been slammed with loan applications.Well, lo and behold we got pushed to the top of the stack and if my husband were here we would’ve been able to sign them today, since he won’t be back until Saturday and the fact that Monday is a holiday we will sign and have funding in hand on Tuesday of next week.

Oh the 4th of September how it will always be a special day in the KCGC history!!!
